One of the things that I hate about some natural foods is that they really don’t have that great of taste or leave that awful after-taste in your mouth. It can be hard to find foods and snacks that not only taste good but are healthy, too.

I was so glad to receive some products from Bear Naked to taste-test for a giveaway opportunity. I love to try new foods–but I hate spending money on things that I may not end up liking, know what I mean? Thankfully all the products that Bear Naked sent me were fabulous! For me, the best way to determine if the taste test was a success was to see if the kids would eat them. Toddlers can be very picky sometimes and yet they didn’t mind the granola, cereal, oatmeal cookies or trail mix.

My personal favorites were the soft-baked double chocolate granola cookies and the Maple Nut Cereal. The maple in the cereal reminded me of pancakes! I enjoyed both packages of the triple berry crunch and banana nut granola–and I plan to keep adding them to our yogurt for an extra added crunch!

What I loved about the products was what I saw on some of their nutritional labels:

It’s hard to find labels that don’t have all the garbage added to them and I could actually understand all the ingredients listed!

One of the hardest things about starting to eat healthier is that a lot of the produce and healthier foods come with a much higher price tag and rarely have coupons. I’m happy that a few more of the Organic and Produce companies are starting to release coupons now and again.

One of the ways to save on produce is to eat What’s in Season. Over the Spring/Summer months, I post things to look for that you might be able to find seasonal savings on. It’s a little tougher to find as many savings in the winter months, though. Just keep watching for produce “loss leaders,” which are items that the stores drop to a lower price to entice you into the store, with the hope that you’ll buy more things.

February is about the time a lot of people start to taper off with their New Year’s Resolution to fit in more exercise into their weekly routines. Over the next few weeks, I’m hoping to have a few more posts and giveaways relating to fitness and health.  I thought I’d start us off with one of my favorite fitness items – Zumba Fitness! What I love about the Zumba Fitness series is that it is so much fun doing the dance-like workout that you barely notice that you are working out. I went back and forth and back and forth on what I wanted to have for the last big giveaway this year. But in the end, my love for books and you guys requesting deals on both of these so often that I finally went with a Kindle Fire or Kindle Touch 3G (without ads/special offers). I really wanted to give you a choice on this one for this one reason–the backlight, or lack of one, on these things.

When I got my Kindle last year for Christmas and I started using it, I kept saying how I wish the background was lit up. But I fell in love with it after a few days and when I went to read a book on my iPhone later, I was glad that the Kindle didn’t have that light as it was hard on my eyes. This is just a personal preference. Now, if you are into Apps, Games and Watching Movies and such, the Kindle Fire might be the better route. So if you win this giveaway, I truly want you to look at both options and see which is going to be the best for you because I want you to absolutely love your prize. I honestly don’t know much about either of these, as I’m not an expert in any way on anything electronic, so make sure you read all about each of them as they each have their own pros and cons.

If I had to recommend a game on the Wii for some fun family time, it would have to be Mario Kart for Wii. It’s a fairly simple one to learn so even the younger kids can pick up on it fairly quickly. My kids get a kick out of using the wheel to race around the tracks.

A few years ago, a few of my friends and I got together across the US in our very own living rooms and had a Mario Kart for Wii night. Two years ago, a small act of kindness from a stranger on a day that I truly needed it sparked me to vow that each year that Coupon Geek is up and running, I would do a “Quarter of Kindness” giveaway on the site in a hope to spark my readers to give truly from their hearts and help those in need.

It was an incredibly cold day and I was shopping with my two very young kids, as I could no longer put off buying groceries. I had stopped at Aldi in hopes of saving some money on our grocery budget. As I was walking towards the carts to put in the quarter deposit, a kind older woman handed me hers and when I offered her my quarter, she smiled so sweetly and said, “Merry Christmas” and walked away without taking it. Something so simple truly made my day. And I want to take that simple quarter, and stretch that kindness annually.

One of my favorite snacks lately is the Pretzel Crisps Buffalo Wing flavor. There are very few things that I am unable to resist eating a lot of but these are definitely not one of them. IHOP has brought back their Holiday Pancakes for the season, starting at just $4.99. They will be serving them through 1/1/12. Here’s a little info on the special flavors:

I was given the opportunity to watch and review Christmas Lodge on DVD. Here’s a little info about the movie:

This is such as a great description of the movie, that I couldn’t resist quoting them. I have to say it was so nice to curl up with a movie that was just real clean-cut and focused so much on the importance on faith, family and memories. After watching this, I kind of wanted to find a “Christmas Lodge” around here as a spot to take my family each year during the holidays. I love creating memories and new family traditions that my kids might share with their own families one day.
