Giveaway: $10 Walmart eGift Card – Annual “Quarter of Kindness” Giveaway – 19 Winners!

UPDATE: This giveaway has ended. Winners will be announced soon!

Back in 2009, a small act of kindness from a stranger on a day that I truly needed it sparked me to vow that each year that Coupon Geek is up and running, I would do a “Quarter of Kindness” giveaway on the site in a hope to spark my readers to give truly from their hearts and help those in need. This will be the fifth year that I’ve done this giveaway. Here’s the story that triggered it:

It was an incredibly cold day and I was shopping with my two very young kids, as I could no longer put off buying groceries. I had stopped at Aldi in hopes of saving some money on our grocery budget. As I was walking towards the carts to put in the quarter deposit, a kind older woman handed me hers and when I offered her my quarter, she smiled so sweetly and said, “Merry Christmas” and walked away without taking it. Something so simple truly made my day. And I want to take that simple quarter, and stretch that kindness annually.

So while the 19 winners of this giveaway will receive a $10 Walmart eGift Card—they are not allowed to spend it on themselves, but on someone in need. It can be anyone they choose, from a charity, food bank, neighbor, friend/family member that’s down on their luck, etc. This is just my way of helping my readers make someone’s day, just like mine was years ago.

Please remember when you go about your day, be it during the holiday season or any day, that you must never underestimate the power of a simple act of kindness. That woman’s simple quarter gesture has already turned into so much more than she ever would have expected–and I am going to make sure that it grows each year, so I’ve added more winners to a total of 19 this year!

If I win, the $10 will be used to purchase goods for our annual Blue Christmas drive. I’m sure Blue Christmas has many fundraising outlets, but as a police employee, I can directly influence the families it helps in my area. So the prize would go to them, along with my own annual donation.

Mail to my sister in S.C. who buys lots of stuff to make things for charity giving. She spends so much out of pocket every year and then a whole bunch of her time as well. Retirement has given her so much more to do than when she was working so anything is useful.

  24. Stefanie Ecuyer says

The men’s group at my church is hosting a breakfast next weekend to raise money for the residents of a local nursing home, Harvestwood. She has helped take care of parents, a sibling who has cerebral palsy, five children and then a disabled husband (for over 35 years) and now has to scrape by to make ends meet. Buy a gift for our adopt a family program at work to give to patients who have to stay in the hospital during the holiday season.

  33. Ann says

I would give this to a friend whose luck is on the downhill slide. Her house went into foreclosure forcing them to move into an apartment. Her husband lost his job right before Thanksgiving. She has chronic asthma that makes her miss a lot of work – she used up any leave benefits long ago so she doesn’t get paid if she doesn’t work. The stress from her bad luck exacerbates the situation. Her oldest son is a sophomore in high school and youngest son is in Kindergarten. Sometimes $10 can feel like 10 thousand dollars when you don’t have it. Praise to you for paying it forward!! I’ve been the recipient, and the payer. Both sides are blessings.

Hey, I would use the gift card on my MIL’s dogs. My Mom in Law has a heart of gold regarding strays of all kind , living in the country so encounters a runaway or lost dog at least once a week. Often these dogs just stay long enough to gain some strength by the food she provides until they go on roaming on. She also put a lot of effort into trying to rehome some, since she can’t keep anymore ( she has 4 right now). Thanks for this contest, it makes me fool good thinking about what and who I want to give to instead of just worrying what my overly spoiled kids might (not) need.
