Giveaway: The Sparkle Box Book – 2 Winners!

November 2, 2012

UPDATE: This giveaway has ended. Winners will be announced soon!

The holidays are approaching and it’s the time of year when we focus on the spirit of giving to others. Nothing touches my heart more than when I see a complete stranger giving freely to someone else in need. It’s also a great time of year to teach kids that it’s not about the gifts under the tree but the gifts that we give to those who need it most.

I was given a review copy of The Sparkle Box and I found it to be a great heart-warming and lesson-filled story. It’s starts off with a little boy noticing a sparkle box on the mantel and asking his mother what it was for. She explains that it’s a gift but it’s not quite ready to give, as it needs to be filled. The story continues with the family doing various things to help others. Each time, without the little boy knowing it, the mother writes the good deed on a piece of paper and puts it in the Sparkle Box. On Christmas morning, the boy opens the box to finds the papers and the family reads them together. The mother then explains how the Sparkle Box is their gift for Jesus on his birthday–that gifts we do for others are ones we do for Him.

It’s an incredibly beautiful story and each book comes with its own Sparkle Box in the back that can be assembled and used. This book and sparkle box might be a great new tradition that you could start with your family each year.

Propeller has been kind to offer me a copy of The Sparkle Box to the two winners that win this giveaway. Each winner will receive the story that contains a sparkle box that they can use with their own family.

I have three teenagers who are bold Christians and I am very proud of their attitude toward the Holidays. They started with Holloween, baking cookies to give away at the block party, Thanksgiving through their 4H group will be providing a holiday meal for two families, and my oldest son is heading up the local toy drive. None have yet mentioned anything they want for Christmas. I know I am bragging, but I am one proud mom. Love the idea of the Sparkle Box.

Each year we choose tags from what is called “The Giving Tree”. We buy gifts from the tags to give to less fortunate children who requested them. I met a man who is very down & close to losing his home this year. He rides his bike so we will be anonymously giving him food Thanksgiving & Christmas.

We’ll hopefully be taking our kids to a gift tree, and having them help pick out a gift to give other kids in need, and saying thank you to our wonderful teachers and neighbors with handmade gifts from the kids.

My girlfriend and I run a group called Birthday Bunch and we hold a monthly birthday party for a place called A Kid’s Place where they hold kids that are waiting to be placed in foster care (they can keep siblings together) but at Xmas we are planning on having Santa and Mrs Claus come in and give each kid a teddy bear (Aeropostle is donating them) and we will do a Pajama drive at our school and add a book and small toy also. The kids just love the birthday party so I am sure the Santa and gifts will be appreciated. It’s a great thing to help our community and teach our kids to give back and also they learn about how kids from their school have a hard life and have to deal with a lot of things normal kids don’t.

My family and I usually find a family who can’t afford to buy much for their children, and help them buy Christmas. We try to save up all year with loose change (Try) and we use that to fund their Christmas. We also try to help with Food donations at school, and Publix. I’m not sure we will be able to do that this year. We recently moved and we’ve not become financially stable as of yet.

Giving to others gives me so much more joy than most anything else. It’s not always in a monetary fashion. Just being available to help others in small ways throughout the year spreads love and compassion.
