One of the hardest things about starting to eat healthier is that a lot of the produce and healthier foods come with a much higher price tag and rarely have coupons. I’m happy that a few more of the Organic and Produce companies are starting to release coupons now and again.
One of the ways to save on produce is to eat What’s in Season. Over the Spring/Summer months, I post things to look for that you might be able to find seasonal savings on. It’s a little tougher to find as many savings in the winter months, though. Just keep watching for produce “loss leaders,” which are items that the stores drop to a lower price to entice you into the store, with the hope that you’ll buy more things.

Even after spending several years trying to focus on buying from farmers, choosing Organic and eating healthier, it can still be hard for me to pay the higher prices. As a veteran couponer, I know how easy it is to get so much food for cheap or even free. I just keep reminding myself that in the long-run, it’s the best thing for our health. I’m glad that when I tell the kids that they can pick any one item in the store that they always choose some type of fruit. And when I stop and think that I could pay $3 for blueberries or $3+ on a bag of greasy potato chips, I’m happy to dish out the money for those blueberries.
I’m hoping that over the course of this month that you will all accept a challenge to do what you can to buy most of your foods in the outer aisles of your grocery stores. Those are where most of your healthier foods are and most of the processed foods tend to be in the middle aisles.
Remember, you can’t win $25 in healthy foods at a grocery store of your choice if you don’t enter!

I would purchase foods to help me keep losing weight on Weight Watchers. I’m about 55 pounds overweight, I’m only 25 with a 4 year old and a 2 year old. I have rhuematoid arthritis which limits my mobility so I rely heavily on diet. I finished my first week of WW today and have lost 3.8 pounds! We’re juggling bills and any amount towards groceries would really help!
