When I was clipping my coupons this morning, I saw on the Ball Canning Coupons in my Smart Source insert that they are hosting a National Can-It-Forward Day on August 13, 2011. I am pretty excited about this as so many of you have expressed how you’d love to learn to can. Here are a few things they are doing:
1) They are encouraging veteran canners to host a canning party amongst friends and teach more people how to can.
2) They are going to be airing Live streaming on canning demonstrations held at the Seattle’s Pike Place Market from 11 AM — 7 PM EDT/8 AM — 4 PM PDT. There’s a place that you can sign-up and they’ll also send you email reminders on this.
3) If you live in Seattle, you can stop by Pike Place Market to participate with them.

Last year was the first year that I canned any food. I made some blueberry raspberry jam and it was delicious. I gave some pint jars to my family as gifts and I got back most of my jars with notes of, “Can’t wait for another batch!” While it is work to can foods, tasting that amazing food that I preserved during the off-season is well worth it to me. This year, my neighbor’s SIL has volunteered to teach me how to can tomatoes and salsa. Looking forward to that!
