I am so incredibly touched any time a reader tells me, “You’ve done so much for my family, is there any way I can return the favor?” My answer is always the same….Pay It Forward. Take those coupon skills that you have learned and use them to help out those that are in need. And folks, with the economy the way it is, sadly the number of people in need is increasing far too rapidly.
Kaley from Cha-Ching on a Shoestring started Couponing For Community as a way for couponers to band together to help those in need. Imagine using those coupons that you clip each week to turn them into food and toiletries for a family that is wondering how they’ll make ends meet that week.
Here’s a little something from the Couponing for Community Facebook Page:
What is the Goal?
This year we are setting a goal of 10,000 items donated in one week’s time. We invite you to track your giving during the week of May 8-14 and then come back here to share your story. We’ll even have a giving tracker to tally up everyone’s efforts!!
Why May 8-14?
We are the kind of people who find ways to give all year long. But we have chosen to set aside one week each year to ‘flex our couponing muscles’ for GOOD and show the impact we can have when we work together. We also chose this week because May 14 is national Stamp out Hunger Day, so giving can be as easy as putting a bag of non-perishable food items out by your mailbox on Saturday, May 14. Check with your local Post Office to find out if they are participating at Stamp out Hunger.
Over the next few weeks, I encourage all of my readers to use your coupons to find items to donate. Never think that just a few items don’t add up either. If every one of just my Facebook Fans grabbed even 5 food/toiletry items to donate, that would be 126,735 items for those in need!! Isn’t that amazing how fast it can add up? And I am just one blogger. Couponing For Community is at over 70 bloggers right now, encouraging all of their readers to do just what I’m sharing with you–not to mention all of our wonderful readers continuing to share this news with their friends and family.
May 8 – 14th is National Stamp Out Hunger Week, which means that on May 14th, they’ll be collecting non-perishable items right at your mailbox. This makes it so easy to donate those items for those of you with Post Offices that are participating. You can also find a local shelter, food bank or The Salvation Army near you that is needing those items.
Thank you for taking time to consider giving back. Be sure to “Like” Couponing for Community to follow along with the progress, to share your tallies and even find some excitement in sharing the joys that come from helping others.
Fellow Bloggers: If you’d like to join in and help spread the word, please share a post with your readers and link-up at Couponing For Community.
Thank you to Kaley from Cha-Ching on a Shoestring for having this Couponing For Community week again this year!
