Using Holiday Prices to Save Year Round

One of the ways I help to keep us within our budget is to take advantage of the hot holiday prices to save us throughout the year. While there may be a random hot sale later in the year, it’s fairly rare that you’ll save the 50-70% that you can find on these hot deals that happen as it gets closer to Christmas and with the upcoming post-holiday sales.

I try to keep a Rubbermaid Container set aside in my closet or coat closet for things such as birthday gifts for parties, Easter basket fillers, rainy day items and birthday gifts for my own kids. This way they can be easily found and the savings aren’t lost on missing gifts/items.

This year, I’ve been watching for hot deals on games as I want to implement a Movie/Game/Outing night each week for my family. We’ll take advantage of those once-a-month free Redbox Rentals, huge game board discounts and free things to do in our area to have a really fun and inexpensive time that will make great memories together.

I took a picture of some of them I’ve found recently. (I think only the Brown Bear game is still on discount.)

Candyland, Pop Goes Froggio, Sum Swamp Addition and Subtraction Game, LeapFrog Easy Reader Phonics Kit 2 and University Games Brown Bear-Panda Bear, What Do You See? Game I spent a total of around $24 for these 5 games – instead of the $81 retail price. I also picked up some Alphie Booster Packs to add to this.

I’m sharing this with you because every year there are usually some pretty hot post-holiday sales. You may want to consider creating your own gift/rainy-day box if you have some money to spare.

I did have to scrape up some money the first year I started doing this but after that, I just put aside money each month to use towards buying these great holiday prices on items to replace them.

It will help you save 50-70% throughout the year, too. And you’ll find that family fun doesn’t have to be expensive outings or dinners. Just some great at-home family fun or free things to do in your area, too.

it’s a great idea. When the Hasbro coupons were around a few months ago, I grabbed several games since those are good generic gifts for Toys For Tots. It felt great to be able to give to others, but not need to go over my budget to do so.
