FRESH the Movie Review and Tshirt Giveaway

December 2, 2010

I’ve mentioned a time or two this year that I am slowly working more Organic foods into my family’s meals. In October, I bought 1/4 cow and 1/2 hog from a local farm. I also signed up for a fall veggie, eggs and chicken CSA from another local farm. And I gotta tell you, I love it and it’s something that I hope I can continue to provide for my family, despite the higher prices.

This summer, I started visiting a local farmer’s market once a week with my son to pick up any veggies or fruits that we needed. I was so lucky to be told by one of the farmers about FRESH the Movie. I had just finished watching Food, Inc. and was excited to hear that Joel Salatin was featured more in FRESH.

I had JUST missed the screening of the one in Chicago so I emailed them and asked them if I might be able to get a screener to review. I was over-the-top thrilled when they agreed.

This is another great film that reinforced my desire and reasons to try to work Organics into our meals. What stuck with me the most were two things they said of “There’s no such thing as cheap food. You pay for it somewhere…in the environment, your health..” and that each time you buy, you are making a vote for what you want. I try to remember that when I want to give in to a cheaper price.

What I loved about this film was Joel Salatin and Will Allen. Joel Salatin made me want to buy up a bunch of acres of land and farm and garden to my hearts desire. And Will Allen is the reason I bought a composter. He runs Growing Power.org and has an amazing story of how he’s turning millions of pounds of waste where he lives in Milwaukee into “black gold” – soil rich in nutrients!

You can check to see if there’s a screening near you, host your own screening or you can buy a license to view at home. I’m wishing I could see the next one in Madison, WI on 1/27/11 as it’s being presented by Joel Salatin.

I wanted to support the movie so I purchased one of their FRESH t-shirts pictured above. I loved it so much that I decided that I wanted to give one of their tshirts away to a lucky reader. The winner can pick any style/color that they have available. The message is great on it, it’s amazingly soft and you might even find out what I have–you’ll get compliments on it. (I had a woman walking in a parade stop to talk to me about it!) :)

So be sure to enter to win that and check out a screening if there’s one in your area!

We live in a very rural area so we’re able to get organic almost year round and when we can’t, we can really tell the difference in the taste.

I wish healthy, chemical free foods were affordable so more families could experience the benefits of eating organic.

Our children changed everything…we wanted them to have as long of a life as possible. We try to buy organice when we can. We love Whole Foods & Earth Fare!
