I just went to my DG store, and they would not accept the coupon! The manager stood there and read it for about 5 minutes, LOL and then said it won’t scan through their system, because I would be getting it for free, with the sale price. They have a HUGE sign at check-out, CLEARLY STATING “We now accept Internet coupons”. I went back and forth with this guy, but he would not budge. I finally got totally aggravated, snatched the coupon from him, and told him I would take it up with their Corporate Office. I also made a show of reading his nametag on my way out of the store! SOOOOOO frustrating! I don’t even shop at that place; I specifically made a trip there JUST to get the deodorants!

That doesn’t sound right. You have a good idea of contacting Corporate. Sorry they treated you like that. There’s no reason you shouldn’t get a product for free if it’s on sale.

Thanks for the response and reassurance! I knew that couldn’t be right! Like I had said, I have never been to a Dollar General store, so I didn’t know if maybe they had some kind of restriction on using coupons on sale items. When I got home last night, I went on their site and pulled up the coupon policy, and it says nothing whatsoever about that kind of coupon/situation not being allowed. I sent an e-mail to their Customer Service department, but have not yet gotten a reply. I also printed out the policy, and if I don’t get a response from Corporate by Saturday, I plan to go back to the store, coupon policy in hand, and get my deal! :) The more I think about it, I think the clerk/manager were just too lazy to push a few buttons on the cash register and fix the coupon!

Good luck! I hope you are able to get them free. Let me know how it goes. :)

I’m hoping maybe a different manager will be working next time and you’ll get a better response.

That’s exactly what I am hoping for; I know the guy’s name, so before I go I’ll just call the store and ask if he’s working! ;)

I’ll keep ya posted…

I also wanted to let you know that I was just on Free Sample Freak.com, and they were discussing Dollar General; someone had the exact same problem I did!! I am definitely pressing this issue now, because it’s crazy. My fiance doesn’t understand why I am making such a big deal about this, but like my parents always taught me – it’s not the money, it’s the principle! LOL

Just wanted to let you know, I ended up contacting their Corporate Offices, and got a prompt call from the District Manager. He assured me that the manager was wrong in not accepting the coupon – and he is also mailing me a gift card to use at the store, to make up for the problem. I am definitely satisfied – this makes up for it! :)

Oh that is sooo wonderful, Stephanie!! It’s great when a business takes care of their Customers when there’s an issue. Hoping you have better luck in the future. I’m sure Corporate will be going over coupon policies with them.
